Remittance inflow rises 41.4pc in August 1-16
Bangladesh received US$1.788 billion in workers’ remittances during the first 16 days of August this year, marking a 41.4 percent increase from US$1.264 billion received during the corresponding
period of 2025.
Expatriate Bangladeshis sent US$289 million home during August 13-16 alone, according to the latest remittance data.
The country received US$4.647 billion in workers’ remittances from July 2026 to August 16, compared with US$3.742 billion during the corresponding period of the previous year.
Thus, remittance inflow increased by US$905 million, or 24.2 percent, during the period under review.
The latest figures indicate a strong upward trend in remittance inflows at the beginning of the 2026-27 fiscal year, providing a boost to the country’s foreign exchange reserves and external sector.
The continued rise in remittances is also expected to support household incomes and domestic economic activity, particularly through increased purchasing power of recipient families.
Bangladesh Bank data showed that remittance inflows had maintained a strong momentum in the opening weeks of the current fiscal year, reflecting increased formal-channel transfers by expatriate Bangladeshis.
