32 killed in mob attacks across BD in October

At least 32 people were killed and 54 others injured in 64 incidents of mob beating across the country in October, according to a report by the Manabadhikar Shongskriti Foundation (MSF).

The death toll from mob violence rose from 23 in September to 32 in October, marking a 39.13% increase in just one month, the report said.

However, the number of people injured in mob attacks declined during the same period, from 74 in September to 54 in October.

The MSF observed that mob beatings had become increasingly aggressive, with a growing risk of fatalities in such incidents.

Fourteen people were beaten to death over allegations of theft alone. Three of them were killed in incidents in Tongi, Noakhali and Chattogram over allegations of stealing auto-rickshaws and cattle.

Five others were killed in mob beatings stemming from ordinary disputes and social conflicts.

Another 11 people died following mob attacks over various allegations, including extortion and land disputes.
