PSC takes cautious route to 50th BCS results

The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) is taking a cautious approach to publishing the final results of the 50th BCS examination to prevent candidates from being recommended for cadre posts more than once.

The Commission plans to announce the results after completing the appointment process for candidates recommended in previous BCS examinations, particularly the 46th and 47th BCS.

The PSC had earlier targeted completing each BCS recruitment cycle within a year, which would have meant publishing the 50th BCS viva voce results by November 25. However, a reliable source within the Commission said it was now following a slower approach to avoid duplicate recommendations.

If the results of a later BCS examination are published before candidates recommended in an earlier examination receive their gazette notifications, the same individuals could be recommended for cadre posts again.

S M Motiur Rahman, the PSC’s public relations officer, told The New Nation that preparations for the 50th BCS results were underway and the results would be published in due course.

He said being recommended for a BCS post did not automatically guarantee appointment, as candidates must undergo a verification process before the government issues a gazette notification.

The processes for the 46th and 47th BCS examinations are still underway. The Commission therefore plans to publish the 50th BCS results after the gazette notifications for these examinations are issued, he added.

Asked about the previous target of publishing results by November 25, Motiur said each commission could set its own priorities and timelines.

He said the previous commission, led by Professor Dr Mobasher Munem, had aimed to complete a BCS recruitment cycle within a year. The current commission, headed by Professor Dr Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuiyan, has adopted a more measured approach to prevent problems such as the need to retake examinations.

The PSC published the 50th BCS examination circular on November 26, 2025. The preliminary examination was held on January 30, 2026, at 190 centres across eight divisional cities.

The preliminary results were published on February 10, followed by the written examination results on July 23.

Viva voce examinations for successful written candidates began on August 11 and concluded on September 29.

A total of 2,150 candidates will be recruited for cadre and non-cadre positions through the 50th BCS, including 1,755 cadre posts.

The health cadre has the highest number of vacancies, with 650 posts, followed by 200 in the administration cadre and 117 in the police cadre.
