Woman accuses Gazipur OC of rape

A woman has accused Iftekhar Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Konabari Police Station in Gazipur, of rape, deception and intimidation, alleging that he used his position to exploit her and later threatened her and her family.

The woman filed a written complaint with the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) commissioner on September 24. The allegations came to public attention on Friday, although the complaint was submitted about six weeks ago.

In her complaint, the woman said she first met Iftekhar around a year and five months ago, when he was serving at Kashimpur Police Station. She had gone there to lodge a personal complaint.

She alleged that Iftekhar obtained her mobile phone number during the visit and later developed a relationship with her through regular contact. He allegedly introduced himself as unmarried and promised to marry her.

According to the complaint, he took her to the residence of his friend Sohel, where they had sexual relations. When she later pressed him to marry her, he allegedly asked her to wait five years before eventually refusing to marry her.

The woman further alleged that Iftekhar’s father later contacted her by phone and made derogatory remarks about her family’s financial condition. When she objected, Iftekhar allegedly verbally abused her, subjected her to mental harassment and threatened to kill her.

She also claimed that on September 11, Iftekhar sent Sohel and another person, whom she described as his uncle, to her home. They allegedly threatened her, took away her mobile phone and deleted call recordings and messages exchanged with the OC.

The complainant said she feared that Iftekhar and his associates could further intimidate her family or implicate them in fabricated cases by abusing their positions of influence.

She also alleged that the OC had sent messages to her parents, asking them to arrange her marriage and offering to provide money for the wedding.

Speaking about the complaint, the woman said she and her family had been living in fear since she approached the GMP commissioner.

“I want justice for this,” she said.
When contacted, Iftekhar Hossain, the OC of Konabari Police Station, denied the allegations, describing them as false.

Taherul Haque Chauhan, additional commissioner of GMP, said an officer had been assigned to investigate the complaint after it was received. Action would be taken after the investigation report was submitted, he added.
