Shadman ruled out for SA Test series
In the end, the fear has come true. BD opener Shadman Islam has been ruled out not only of the ongoing Sylhet Test against the West Indies but also of the upcoming tour to South Africa (SA).
Sadman sprained his ankle on the second day of the Sylhet Test. The MRI report is yet to arrive, doctors suspect a ligament tear.
Following his injury on Friday morning, Shadman underwent an MRI at a local hospital in Sylhet.
The BCB’s medical department has yet to receive the report; Shadman’s ankle remains swollen.
The BCB medical department said, “An MRI was conducted that same day. The report has not yet arrived, but based on an initial assessment, we suspect there might be a hairline fracture in the bone.
There is also an issue with the ligaments. In that case, it could take 3-4 weeks to become fit for play.”
After the Sylhet Test, the Bangladesh cricket team will depart for South Africa on November 11. The first Test of the series is set to begin in Johannesburg on November 15. It will not be possible for Shadman to be fit enough to play in that match.
The incident occurred on Friday during the 78th over of the innings, the eighth over of the day.
When Amir Jangoo flicked the first ball of an over bowled by Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the ball rolled towards the fine-leg boundary.
Shadman sprinted towards the boundary to stop it, but he ran into trouble while attempting to do so; his left ankle got caught in the grass and twisted.
The opening batter immediately collapsed to the ground in pain. The physio and medical staff rushed onto the field. His shoe was removed as part of the initial treatment, Shadman kept his face covered due to the intensity of the pain.
Unable to stand on his feet, he was carried off the field on a stretcher and subsequently taken to the hospital in a wheelchair.
