Actors Equity suspends Tanjin Tisha and Othoi
Actors Equity Bangladesh has indefinitely suspended the memberships of actresses Tanjin Tisha and Samia Othoi.
The decision comes following allegations that they assaulted a fellow actor on a shooting set, a subsequent exchange of accusations, and their alleged failure to comply with the association’s arbitration ruling and show-cause notices.
The association announced the decision in a letter posted on its Facebook page on Friday night.
According to sources within the association, it has an independent arbitration committee to resolve disputes among actors. Tanjin Tisha and Samia Othoi were summoned before the committee over the incident.
Following the hearing, the committee decided that they should issue a public apology and submit video statements. However, they reportedly failed to carry out the decision.
The arbitration committee subsequently sent them two letters, but neither actress responded. Both letters were returned undelivered.
Attempts to contact them by phone also went unanswered. After waiting for an extended period, the committee recommended suspending their memberships to the executive committee.
The recommendation was later unanimously approved at an executive committee meeting.
Reacting to the suspension and other related issues, Tanjin Tisha said, “I have seen a lot over the past year, including the saree controversy. Sooner or later, everything will come out in the open. I am just waiting for that day.
Despite all the obstacles and whatever has happened over the past eight months, I have not stopped, and I will not stop. I will not give up. I can say this with such confidence because I know I have done nothing wrong.”
