Struggle of a daughter focused in Mahi’s new drama
Samira Khan Mahi stars in a new family drama, Mayar Songsar, which explores the challenges of life in a joint family. Written and directed by Md Omar Faruk, the series recently premiered, with Mahi sharing the screen with Nader Chowdhury, Monira Mithu, Jonayed Bukdadi, Syed Musafir Bacchu among others.
Set in Dhaka, the story centres on a family struggling to make ends meet. The father, a retired school teacher, lives with his two sons, neither of whom contributes to the household expenses. The family’s only daughter is also of marriageable age.
As their financial troubles mount, she steps in to support her parents and tries to turn things around. The series highlights her struggle for financial independence while exploring family responsibilities and the realities of middle-class life.
Mahi plays the daughter at the centre of the story. Describing her character, she said, “This is a story about a family going through difficult times, and my character is at the heart of it. She comes from a middle-class family, and viewers will see the challenges she faces.
She wants to become financially independent and stand on her own feet rather than rely on anyone’s sympathy or charity.”
Mahi previously starred in another family drama mini-series, Kormofol. Explaining why she enjoys working in this genre, she said, “People often find their own lives reflected in family dramas.
These stories also give every member of the family an important role, rather than focusing on just one character.
I also get to work with a variety of actors and learn from senior performers. That’s why I’m particularly drawn to family dramas.”
