600 Cub Scouts join in N’ganj cleanliness drive
Around 600 Cub Scouts from various primary schools in Narayanganj Sadar upazila took part in a weekly cleanliness drive aimed at creating a cleaner, healthier and more liveable environment in the district.
The programme was organised by the Narayanganj Sadar Upazila administration on Saturday.
The cleanliness campaign was conducted along the stretch from Fatullah Railway Line to Fatullah Pilot High School. Students took part in removing litter and waste from roadsides and cleaning the surrounding areas.
Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md Raihan Kabir and Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Fayez Uddin attended the programme. Members of the upazila Scouts, scout leaders, the upazila primary education officer and local public representatives were also present.
The importance of the initiative was highlighted against the backdrop of growing risks of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases, poor waste management and environmental pollution.
The programme also aimed to instil habits of cleanliness, environmental awareness and social responsibility among students from an early age.
The deputy commissioner and the UNO praised the enthusiastic participation of the Cub Scouts and urged students and people from all walks of life to contribute to building a clean and healthy Narayanganj.
The upazila administration aims to turn cleanliness activities into a regular practice and a broader social movement while encouraging the younger generation to become environmentally conscious and responsible citizens.
