Chinese firm CRCC to invest in BD’s industrial sector

In a significant vote of confidence for Bangladesh’s economic trajectory, global construction giant China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) has formally committed to exploring substantial investment opportunities across the nation’s critical infrastructure and industrial sectors.
A non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on Thursday in Mongla in the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, marking a major step forward in bilateral economic cooperation between Dhaka and Beijing, aligning with Bangladesh’s ambitious goals of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2034.
The agreement outlines a broad framework for cooperation. CRCC, ranked 57th on the 2026 Fortune Global 500 list, and its subsidiaries, including China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), will conduct feasibility studies and identify viable projects in several key areas.
These encompass the modernization and expansion of core infrastructure to enhance connectivity in transportation and logistics, investments in renewable energy and waste-to-energy projects to support the energy transition, and the establishment of railway equipment assembly plants alongside the fostering of technical training to build industrial capacity.
Furthermore, the partnership will explore opportunities to revitalize underperforming state-owned enterprises in sectors like chemical, sugar and food processing, steel, and engineering industries.
The MoU was signed by Saleh Ahmed, Member of the Industrial Zone Division of Invest Bangladesh, and Li Chongyang, Chairman of CCECC.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Invest Bangladesh Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, and CRCC Chairman Dai Hegen.
This strategic partnership follows a high-level meeting between Prime Minister Rahman and CRCC Chairman Dai Hegen at the World Economic Forum’s Summer Davos earlier in 2026, where initial discussions on deepening investment ties were held.
