SEU hosts 12th IEEE WIE Confce
Southeast University (SEU) in Dhaka hosted the 12th IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering 2026 on October 30 and 31, bringing together researchers, academics, industry professionals and students from Bangladesh and abroad.
Jointly organised by the IEEE Bangladesh Section and the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of the Bangladesh Section, the two-day conference aimed to encourage research exchange, showcase technological innovations and promote women’s participation in engineering.
The inaugural ceremony was held at the SEU Multipurpose Hall on the first day of the conference.
Prof Dr Md Aslam Hossain, a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), attended the event as the chief guest.
Among the distinguished guests were Dr Celia Shahnaz, general chair of the conference; Prof Dr Shaikh Anowarul Fattah, technical programme committee (TPC) chair; Prof Dr M Imamul Hassan Bhuiyan, chair of the IEEE Bangladesh Section; and Prof Dr Yusuf Mahbubul Islam, conference patron and vice-chancellor of SEU.
Prof Dr M Mofazzal Hossain, general chair and pro-vice-chancellor of SEU, delivered the vote of thanks.
Authors, session chairs, faculty members and students of the university also attended the inaugural event.
The conference received more than 600 paper submissions from leading public and private universities in Bangladesh and institutions in several countries, including the United States, Ireland, Germany, China, India, the United Arab Emirates and Pakistan.
Following a peer-review process, only 25 per cent of the submitted papers were accepted, reflecting the conference’s selection standards.
The event featured keynote addresses and invited talks by international experts from different fields of engineering and technology.
The speakers included Margaretha Eriksson, senior information security specialist and chief information security officer (CISO) from Sweden; Professor Lina Bertling Tjernberg, an IEEE Fellow at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, and visiting professor at Stanford University, USA.
Other speakers included Jyothi Ramaswamy of the University of Kerala, India; Padmaja Pulivarthy of Austin, Texas, USA; Dr Raisa Fabiha, application engineer (Lithography) at RIITH; and Dr Manjira Sinha, senior scientist at TCS Research, Kolkata, India.
The conference concluded on October 31 with a closing ceremony. The organisers presented the Best Three Paper Awards in recognition of outstanding research.
Best Presenter Awards were also given to presenters selected from each technical session.
