Tigers have narrow lead on Day 2
Bangladesh have a narrow 135-run lead on Day 2 against Afghanistan in the first Test after the Tigers scoring 346 runs in the first innings and Afghanistan made 211 for the loss of four wickets at Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates on Saturday.
Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 317 for the loss of eight wickets. Nayeem Hasan and Taijul Islam resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 11 and four runs respectively.
Nayeem Hasan remained unbeaten with 35 runs. His 67-ball knock was ornamented with four runs.
Afghanistan had a poor start as opener Sadiqullah Atal (17) was caught at the first sleep by Tanzid Hasan off Hasan Mahmud when Afghanistan’s score was 30.
Right-arm pacer Ebadot Hossain struck as Shahidullah (20) was caught at the deep fine leg by Hasan Mahmud off right-arm pacer when Afghanistan’s total was 64 for the loss of two wickets.
Opener Abdul Malik and second-down Rahmat Shah repaired the damage scoring together 70 runs in the third wicket stand before Abdul Malik was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Ebadot Hossain when Afghanistan’s score was 134 for the loss of three wickets.
Abdul Malik knocked calm 62. His 120-ball innings was studded with four fours and a sixer. It was Abdul Malik’s maiden half century.
Right-arm spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz hit as Hashmatullah Shahidi was stumped out by Litton Das off right-arm spinner when Afghanistan’s total was 139 for the loss of four wickets.
Then, Rahmat Shah and Ikram Alikhil salvaged their team from debacle putting together 72 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket partnership before the bails were drawn for the second day.
Rahmat Shah remained unbeaten with 84 runs. He hit eight fours and a sixer in his 186-ball innings.
Ikram Alikhil remained unbeaten with 26 runs.
Ebadot Hossain grabbed two wickets in the space of 50 runs, while Hasan Mahmud and Mehidy Hasan Miraz took one wicket each for 36 and 37 runs respectively.
