Moulana Karim urges unity to ensure peaceful Bishwa Ijtema
Islamic scholar Moulana M A Karim Ibn Mosobbir has urged the two factions of Tabligh Jamaat to resolve their longstanding differences and reunite ahead of the upcoming Bishwa Ijtema, stressing the need to preserve unity and prevent further violence.
In a statement, Karim, a prominent Bangladeshi Islamic scholar and former central leader of Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh, said differences of opinion among Islamic scholars could be a source of mercy.
However, disputes that led to division, factionalism and confrontation could not be considered a blessing.
Referring to past incidents of violence at the Bishwa Ijtema grounds in Tongi and inside mosques in different parts of the country, he urged senior leaders of both factions to set aside their grievances and reach an agreement before the upcoming gathering.
“Both sides should clear their hearts of all grievances, meet one another, resolve their differences and reunite,” he said.
Karim expressed hope that the leaders would put the broader interests of the Muslim community ahead of their internal disputes and work towards reconciliation through dialogue and mutual understanding.
Tabligh Jamaat is a worldwide Islamic missionary movement that focuses on religious preaching, personal reform and encouraging Muslims to practise their faith in everyday life. Its activities include sending groups of followers to different communities to promote religious observance and moral development.
Karim said the movement’s central mission was to guide people towards the path of Allah and encourage them to reform their lives in line with Islamic teachings.
He called on senior leaders to demonstrate patience, mutual respect and a willingness to compromise, saying their conduct should reflect the principles of brotherhood and peaceful coexistence that the movement seeks to promote.
The scholar expressed hope that both factions would settle their differences through dialogue, allowing the upcoming Bishwa Ijtema to take place in a peaceful atmosphere.
