President urges joint efforts to address RMG sector challenges

President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Wednesday called on BGMEA, BKMEA, BTMA and all stakeholders to work together to address the challenges facing the country’s readymade garment (RMG) sector.

“Coordinated initiatives are needed to keep the country’s growing economy moving forward so that all can benefit equally,” he said.

The President made the remarks when a delegation of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), led by its President Mohammad Hatem, paid a courtesy call on him at Bangabhaban in the afternoon.

President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam briefed BSS on the meeting.

Fakhrul Islam said the government is pursuing business-friendly policies in the financial, industrial and business sectors to strengthen the economy, create employment and provide businesses with opportunities to recover their losses.

He also stressed the need to reduce bank interest rates to provide necessary support for sustaining economic growth and increasing investment.

The President urged industrial owners to shift towards alternative energy sources, including solar power, to help address the ongoing energy crisis.

He thanked BKMEA for its role in earning foreign currency for the country.
The President’s Military Secretary, Secretary and Press Secretary were also present at the meeting.
