BGMEA to enforce ESG reporting for all factories Business Report
The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will require all its member factories to submit environmental, social and governance (ESG) reports, as exporters face tightening sustainability rules in overseas markets, particularly the European Union.
BGMEA President Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu announced the plan on Monday at the launch of the association’s ESG Dashboard at its Uttara headquarters.
Only 326 of the association’s roughly 2,500 active members have so far filed ESG reports, about 13 percent of the total, a level Babu described as unsatisfactory.
“We need to make our factories more compliant and data-driven to meet changing global market demands and address future challenges in the sustainable apparel sector,” he said.
BGMEA will work with the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association to ensure proper reporting, he added.
The dashboard was developed with the Danish Embassy in the capital, the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, and Mapped in Bangladesh.
