Int’l Literacy Day discussion meeting held in Sherpur
A discussion meeting was held in Sherpur, Bogura, on the occasion of International Literacy Day 2026, with the theme “Literacy for People, Planet and Prosperity.”
The meeting was held at upazila parishad hallroom on Tuesday. The event was jointly organised by the Sherpur Upazila Administration and the Upazila Bureau of Non-Formal Education.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sherpur Upazila Abdullah Al Mamun attended the meeting as the chief guest. Upazila Primary Education Officer (in-charge) Md. Abdullah Al Mahmud was present as a special guest.
Upazila Non-Formal Education Officer (in-charge) Laila Shirin Nahar presided over the meeting, which was conducted by Assistant Upazila Education Officer Mohammad Anisur Rahman.
Among others, Assistant Upazila Education Officers Muhammad Parvez Ahmed and Md. Sirajul Islam, Academic Supervisor Md. Zakir Hossain, Sherpur Press Club Vice-President Md. Abdul Mannan spoke.
teachers Md. Nur-e-Alam, Md. Shafiqul Islam, Shamima Akter Bonya, Khandaker Masud Rana, Selina Sultana Likhon, Md. Shahinur Rahman, and Md. Abdur Razzaq spoke at the meeting.
The speakers said there is no alternative to literacy for eliminating illiteracy and building a skilled and conscious population. They emphasised bringing dropout children, adolescents and illiterate people into the education system through non-formal education alongside institutional education.
Officials and employees of the Upazila Administration, the Bureau of Non-Formal Education and other concerned organisations were present at the meeting.
