Consumer rights drive fines five in Rangpur

The National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection has fined five businesses a total of Tk 50,000 during a market monitoring drive in Badarganj, Rangpur.

The drive was conducted on Monday in the 13 No. Railgate Bazar and Badarganj Bazar areas of the upazila for failing to properly sell products as promised to consumers.

The drive was conducted by the Rangpur divisional and district offices of the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection. Several chilling centres, feed shops and meat shops were inspected during the operation.

During the drive, Rangpur Dairy Product was fined Tk 25,000, Pran Dairy Tk 10,000, Ma Traders Tk 7,000, Abwa Banijya Bhandar Tk 6,000 and Habibor Meat House Tk 2,000.
The total fine of Tk 50,000 was collected immediately.

Deputy Director of the Rangpur divisional office of the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection Md Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director of the Rangpur district office Md Mostafizur Rahman, the Badarganj Upazila Livestock Officer, representatives of the Rangpur District Food Safety Authority, and members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Force were present during the drive.
After the operation, Deputy Director Md Jahangir Alam said such market monitoring drives and operations would continue in the public interest.
