Munoz rescues point for Liverpool at home to Forest

Victor Munoz marked his full debut with a goal to rescue a Premier League point for Liverpool at home to Nottingham Forest.

The Spain winger lashed homed from Florian Wirtz’s pass to level for Andoni Iraola’s side with eight minutes remaining after Morgan Gibbs-White’s penalty had put the visitors on course for three points.

Dan Ndoye had given Forest the lead midway through the first half, slotting home from Gibbs-White’s pass after a simple long ball over the top took out the Liverpool defence.

Liverpool drew level on the hour mark when Alexander Isak tapped into an empty net from Cody Gakpo’s pinpoint low cross.

But with Liverpool hoping to push on to find a winner, goalkeeper Alisson was adjudged to have brought down Neco Williams after a quick throw-in from Forest’s new record signing Liam Delap.

The home side were furious with the decision but it was upheld and Gibbs-White sent Alisson the wrong way from the spot.

But, as they did at Newcastle last weekend, Liverpool battled back and Munoz thumped the ball home off the crossbar to equalise.

Neither side could find a winner, though, leaving both Iraola and Oliver

After a slow start, Forest were the better side once the game settled and it took a superb block from Jeremy Jacquet to prevent Igor Jesus prodding home.

Ndoye also headed narrowly wide from James McAtee’s clipped cross and by the time he did put Forest ahead, the lead was deserved.

Liverpool thought they had equalised 10 minutes later through Wirtz’s smart finish but it was ruled out for offside in the build-up, and they could be grateful to Alisson that they did not go into half-time two down as he pushed Igor Jesus’ effort on to the bar in first-half stoppage time.

Forest looked the more likely at the start of the second half to score but failed to make the most of a couple of promising counter-attacks, and were punished when Gakpo span Williams and crossed for Isak to equalise.

That brought the home crowd to life and suddenly Liverpool looked capable of going on to take all three points.

However, 10 minutes later, Forest were back in front. A long ball forward was put out for a throw-in, Delap and Williams spotted an opportunity and when Alisson came out to meet the latter, he caught the wing-back and referee Samuel Barrott pointed to the spot.

Gibbs-White finished emphatically and Forest fans were dreaming of a third consecutive league win at Anfield.

But Liverpool rallied again and Munoz’s strike ensured the points were shared.
