BUET, Tufts wrap up engineering diplomacy workshop
Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) and Tufts University of the United States have concluded a three-day workshop aimed at advancing engineering diplomacy and strengthening institutional partnerships.
The Dhaka Engineering Diplomacy Workshop 2026 was jointly organised by BUET’s Centre for Environmental and Resource Management (CERM) and Tufts University.
The workshop began on August 25 and was funded by the National Science Foundation of the United States.
The closing ceremony was held at Hotel InterContinental in Dhaka on the evening of August 27, bringing together prominent academics, researchers and policymakers from Bangladesh and abroad.
Among those attending were Tufts University Professor Dr Shafiqul Islam, BUET CERM Director Professor Dr Sheikh Mokhlesur Rahman, Professor Dr Sohrab Hossain, Associate Professor Dr Aman Uddin and eminent water resources expert Professor Emeritus Dr Ainun Nishat.
Directors General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other distinguished guests also attended the closing programme.
Speakers at the closing ceremony placed particular emphasis on institutional partnerships to advance science and engineering diplomacy.
They said stronger institutional cooperation would help enhance Bangladesh’s capacity to address future challenges related to climate, energy and cyber security at regional and global levels.
The three-day workshop was organised as a platform for academics, researchers and policymakers to engage on issues related to engineering diplomacy and the role of scientific and technical cooperation in addressing emerging regional and global challenges.
