Moyeen Khan named convener of National Awards Committee
The government has reconstituted the Cabinet Committee on National Awards, appointing Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan as its convener, according to a Cabinet Division notification issued on August 25.
The 10-member committee has been tasked with scrutinising proposals submitted by different ministries and recommending candidates for national awards, alongside advising on the formal presentation of awards and related arrangements.
The reconstituted committee will also assess whether new national awards are needed and make recommendations accordingly, according to the notification.
Besides Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, the committee comprises Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Minister for Industries, Textiles and Jute and Commerce Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andaleeve Rahman, Water Resources Minister Md Shahiduddin Chowdhury Anee, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, State Minister for Shipping and Bridges Md Rajib Ahsan and State Minister for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Hoque.
The Cabinet Division will provide overall support for implementing decisions taken by the committee.
Alongside the Cabinet committee, the government has formed a nine-member secretariat committee headed by the Cabinet Secretary to provide necessary assistance.
The principal secretary to the prime minister or secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office will serve as a member of the secretariat committee, along with the secretaries of finance, health, education, commerce, information and broadcasting, and other relevant ministries.
The secretariat committee will assist the Cabinet Committee on National Awards in examining proposals and carrying out other related responsibilities.
The committee has been entrusted with reviewing proposals received from different ministries for national awards, recommending arrangements for their formal presentation and considering proposals for introducing new national awards.
The Cabinet Division said the previous notification issued on February 25, 2026, concerning the formation of the committee has been cancelled.
The new order came into effect immediately.
