5th wife sues Misbah, alleges 9 marriages

A case has been filed against controversial Charmonai-affiliated Islamic preacher and Chairman of “313 Properties,” Maulana Habibur Rahman Misbah, on charges of dowry demand. His fifth wife, Mosa.

Humaira Jannat, filed the case last Thursday, 20 August, under Section 3 of the Dowry Prohibition Act 2018.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam has summoned the accused, Misbah, to appear in court in connection with the case, which became known on Saturday.

The plaintiff’s lawyer, former Assistant Attorney General A B M Ibrahim Khalil, confirmed the case and the summons.

According to the case’s allegations, Humaira Jannat’s marriage to accused Misbah took place on 4 May 2020, following an acquaintance made through social media. During their married life, a son named “Afrad Misbah” was born on 21 January 2025.

At the time of the marriage, Misbah concealed information about his previous four marriages. Humaira later learned that, apart from her, Misbah had married a total of nine times. None of these marriages were formalized through a marriage contract (kabinnama) or marriage registration.

Regarding this matter, the plaintiff’s lawyer, Advocate A B M Ibrahim Khalil, said, “The accused, Maulana Habibur Rahman Misbah, and the plaintiff, Humaira Jannat, became acquainted through contact on Facebook. At one point, Misbah took Humaira Jannat to his residence in Jatrabari. They had a physical relationship before marriage. They later married and have a child together.”

He further said, “Humaira Jannat is his fifth wife. Even after her, he married four more times. In total, information about nine marriages has been found. At the same time, there are also allegations of extramarital affairs with multiple women. Misbah used his identity as a religious preacher to build relationships with various women.”
