1,391 sacks of fertiliser seized in Dinajpur

A total of 1,391 sacks of stockpiled chemical fertilisers were seized from the warehouses of four fertiliser traders in Biral upazila of the district on Monday.

The traders were fined a total of Taka 1.02 lakh for illegally hoarding fertilisers and allegedly creating an artificial crisis in the market. The warehouses were also sealed following the drive, reports BSS.

Biral Upazila Agriculture Officer Rumman Akter confirmed the matter. She said the drive was conducted from 9.30 am to 2.30 pm at the warehouses of four fertiliser traders in different areas of the upazila, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

According to the upazila administration and agriculture department, the drive began around 9.30 am at Mahadevpur Machuapara intersection beside the Biral-Bochaganj road in Farakkabad Union.

The proprietor of M/s Shahir Traders Md Nasim Iqbal Khokon was fined Taka 50,000.

A total of 782 sacks of fertiliser were seized from his warehouse, including 446 sacks of TSP, 276 sacks of DAP, 46 sacks of MOP and 14 sacks of urea.

Later, an operation was conducted at the warehouse of Md Abdul Alim in a nearby area and 17 sacks of fertiliser were seized. He was fined Taka 2,000.

The authorities conducted drives at the warehouses of two other retailers at Dhukrjhary and Boderhat markets.

At Dhukrjhary market, 284 sacks of fertiliser were seized from the warehouse of retailer Rashedul Islam and he was fined Taka 25,000.

At Boderhat, 308 sacks of fertiliser were seized from the warehouse of retailer Md Nizam Uddin. He was fined Taka 25,000 in this connection.

The upazila administration and agriculture department said such drives would continue.
