Legal notice seeking travel ban on Dr. Yunus

A legal notice has been sent seeking a ban on former interim government Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus from leaving the country, alleging his involvement in the commercialisation of measles vaccines.

On Monday, 16 August, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister M Ashraful Islam sent the notice to the relevant authorities of the government.

Confirming the matter, Ashraful Islam said, “I have sent the legal notice seeking a travel ban on Dr. Yunus for his involvement in the sinister and criminal act of transferring measles vaccines from the state-run system to the private sector.”

The notice was issued alleging Dr. Yunus’s involvement in transferring measles vaccines from the state-run system to the private sector. It called for imposing a ban on his departure from the country.

A measles outbreak has occurred in the country this year. According to the latest measles-related report of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), a total of 803 children died with measles-like symptoms across the country between 15 March and 15 August . Another 99 children died after contracting measles. In total, 902 children died during the period from measles and measles-like symptoms.
