BGB foils BSF push-in attempt

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today said it prevented an alleged push-in attempt by India’s Border Security Force (BSF), after four people, including a woman and a child, were brought towards the Bangladesh border in frontier.

The incident took place around 1:10pm near Border Pillar No 61/12-R in the Chapatala area of Maheshpur, according to a press release issued by BGB-58 Maheshpur Battalion.

The BGB said members of BSF-194 Battalion attempted to push the four people into Bangladesh through a gate near the border pillar.

Personnel from the BGB’s Kusumpur Border Outpost intervened and stopped the alleged attempt, the statement said.

Assistant Director Munsi Imdadur Rahman, focal person of BGB-58, said the four people were currently on the Indian side, around 150 yards from the zero line, in a dense banana plantation.

He said the BGB had informed BSF-194 Battalion about the incident.

The latest development comes amid continued concerns over alleged attempts to push people across the India-Bangladesh border without following established procedures.

The BGB and BSF maintain communication through border-level mechanisms to address such incidents and other issues along the frontier.
