3 schoolgirls drown in Jashore

Two sisters, Lamia (13) and Sultana (10), a schoolgirl, drowned in a pond in Dakshinpara of Jamdia village in Bagharpara upazila of Jashore.

Another schoolgirl, Fahima (9), died in the same incident. The deceased Lamia and Sultana are the daughters of Nisar Ali of Dakshinpara of Jamdia village in Bagharpara upazila.

The deceased Fahima is the daughter of Ashiq of the same area. Lamia is a sixth-grade student at the local Jamdia Secondary School and Sultana is a fourth-grade student at Jamdia Government Primary School. The deceased Fahima was also a third-grade student of Jamdia Government Primary School.

According to family sources, the deceased Lamia, her younger sister Sultana and neighbor Fahima went to bathe in the nearby Ikram Molla pond on Friday noon as the school was closed.

Meanwhile, three people drowned in the water there inadvertently, resulting in unexpected deaths. Later, the family members came to know about the matter and after much searching, recovered their bodies from the pond. A shadow of mourning has fallen over the area over this incident.

Confirming the truth of the incident, Bagharpara Police Station OC Md. Shahjalal Alam said that a case of accidental death has been registered at the police station in this regard.
