385kg fish fry released in Shibganj

A total of 385 kg of fish fry was released in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Wednesday to increase fish resources and enhance the productivity of water bodies.

The fish fry release programme was organised by the Shibganj Upazila Fisheries Office at a pond adjacent to Tahakhana.

The programme was chaired by Shibganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mazharul Islam. District Fisheries Officer Shahinur Rahman, Upazila Fisheries Officer Sanjoy Kumar Sarker, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Mizanur Rahman, Upazila Agriculture Officer Nayan Mia, Tahakhana Alia Madrasa Superintendent Maulana Mamun Ur Rashid, local public representatives, community leaders and fishers were present.

According to the Fisheries Department, 385 kg of fry of various species, including rohu, catla and mrigel, will be released in the Tahakhana pond, Ranibari Cluster Village pond, Ranihati Cluster Village pond, Upazila Parishad pond and a canal in Dhainagar Union during the 2026-27 fiscal year under the government’s revenue budget.

The initiative aims to increase fish production and improve the productivity of local water bodies.
