3 of a family burned in N’ganj gas fire

Three members of a family suffered critical burn injuries in a fire caused by a gas leak in Narayanganj on Friday morning.

The victims were identified as Maidul, 24, his wife Beauty, 24, and their eight-year-old son Maruf, all residents of Narayanganj Sadar upazila.

They were rescued from the scene and taken to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, said Dr Shawon Bin Rahman, a resident surgeon at the institute.

He said all three were in critical condition.

Maidul sustained burns to 85 percent of his body, Beauty to 80 percent and Maruf to 90 percent.
The three are currently undergoing treatment at the institute’s intensive care unit, the physician said.

Gas leak refers to a leak of natural gas or another gaseous product from a pipeline or other containment into any area where the gas should not be present. Gas leaks can be hazardous to health as well as the environment.
