4 killed in Bogura road crash

Four people, including three fish traders and a pickup driver, were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup and a goods-laden truck in Kahaloo upazila of Bogura on Saturday morning.

The crash occurred around 10:00am in the Kazipara Boubazar area of Birkedar union on the Bogura-Naogaon highway.

The deceased were identified as pickup driver Nasir Uddin, 24, son of the late Amin Khan of Pachashi village in Mymensingh’s Gouripur upazila; Toriqul Islam Riyad, 23, son of Ferdous Islam of the same village; Lutfor Rahman, 50, son of Toyeb Ali of Raghabpur in Mymensingh Sadar; and Shubha Debnath, 23, son of Chittaranjan Debnath of the same area.

Family members said the three traders had travelled from Mymensingh to Adamdighi in Bogura to sell a consignment of fish fry. They were returning home after completing the sale when the accident occurred.

Police said the pickup attempted to overtake a bus and entered the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a Naogaon-bound truck. All four occupants of the pickup died at the scene.

The collision briefly disrupted traffic on the highway. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel, assisted by police, recovered the bodies and removed the damaged vehicles, allowing traffic to resume.

Kahaloo Police Station Sub-Inspector Brojer Mahato said police had seized both vehicles, while the truck driver and his assistant fled the scene.

“The victims’ families in Mymensingh have been informed. The bodies will be handed over to their relatives after they arrive,” he said.

Officer-in-Charge Shafiqul Islam said police had filed a case under the Road Transport Act and were conducting drives to arrest the truck driver.
