World Unani Foundation gets new VP

Unani physician Hakim Md Mostafizur Rahman Sabuj of Nilphamari has been elected as a vice president (VP) of the newly formed Executive Committee of the World Unani Foundation Bangladesh for the 2026-2029 term.

The inauguration of the newly constituted executive committee and a discussion titled “Sustainable Development of Unani Medicine through Knowledge Development, Publications and Global Collaboration” were held on Friday at the auditorium of Hakim Habibur Rahman Unani Medical College in Bangshal, Dhaka. During the event, the newly elected committee members were officially introduced and assumed their responsibilities.

The programme was attended by Professor Dr. Md. Israfil of the Department of Urdu at the University of Dhaka as the chief guest. Dr Sardar Md. Ruhul Amin, Controller of Examinations of the Bangladesh Board of Unani and Ayurvedic Systems of Medicine, attended as the special guest.

The event was chaired by the newly elected president, Professor A. K. Mahbubur Rahman Saki, while Hakim Dr Md Ruhul Amin, Secretary General of the Foundation, delivered the welcome address.

Speaking as one of the vice presidents, Hakim Md. Mostafizur Rahman Sabuj emphasized the importance of research-based knowledge development, quality publications, skilled human resource development and stronger international cooperation to further advance Unani medicine.

The speakers said the sustainable development of Unani medicine could be achieved through research, public awareness and expanded global collaboration. They also called on the newly elected committee to transform the organisation into a more dynamic, research-oriented and public welfare-focused institution.

During the programme, the second issue of “Al-Hijama”, a magazine published under the Foundation’s patronage, was officially unveiled. The speakers expressed optimism that the magazine would play a significant role in promoting Unani medicine through research-based knowledge and high-quality publications in the Bangla language.

The event was attended by Unani physicians, teachers, researchers, students and distinguished guests from different parts of the country.
