UCB promotes Bangla QR payments in Ctg
United Commercial Bank PLC (UCB) organised a promotional programme at ShoppingBag Super Market on Chatteswari Road in Chattogram to promote Bangla QR transactions and encourage customers and merchants to use digital payments.
According to the press release, Swarup Kumar Chowdhury, executive director (current charge) of Bangladesh Bank, and Mohammad Mamdudur Rashid, chief executive officer of UCB, used Bangla QR for transactions during the programme.
They demonstrated how customers can pay by scanning a QR code with supported banking and payment apps.
The initiative highlighted Bangla QR as an interoperable payment solution that allows customers to pay at merchant outlets using different supported applications. It also encouraged merchants to join the digital payment ecosystem.
Mamdudur Rashid said, “Digital payments can create greater value when they are simple, accessible and convenient for everyday use. Through this initiative, we want more customers and merchants to experience the convenience of Bangla QR. UCB remains committed to supporting a more digital and inclusive financial ecosystem in Bangladesh.”
Bangladesh Bank officials present at the programme included Md Sajjad Hossain Chowdhury, additional director; Md Rashedul Islam, joint director; and Mahfuzur Rahman, assistant director.
Also present were Md Abdullah Al Mamoon, PMP, deputy managing director and chief operating officer of UCB; Zeeshan Kingshuk Huq, chief communications officer of the bank; and other officials from Bangladesh Bank and UCB.
