Flood victims to get support until full rehabilitation

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury on Friday said government relief and rehabilitation support for flood-affected people would continue until their full rehabilitation was completed.

He said around 700,000 people had been affected by flooding in Chattogram, while more than 100,000 had already received relief assistance. The minister made the remarks while distributing relief among flood victims in Patenga in the morning.

“Rice, cooked meals and dry food are being distributed among the affected people,” Khasru said, adding that rehabilitation activities were also underway.

He said many roads had been damaged by the floods and instructed the authorities concerned to accelerate repair work.

After completing the relief distribution in Patenga, the minister left for Chandanaish upazila. He was also scheduled to distribute relief later in the day in Satkania, Lohagara and Banshkhali upazilas.
