Members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (Ansar & VDP) detained two alleged patient brokers at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) late on Thursday after they were allegedly found trying to lure patients to a private clinic.
The suspects were later handed over to police for legal action.
The detainees were identified as Shakil and Monir. They were apprehended at around 11:40pm from Ward No. 208 of the hospital, according to Ansar & VDP Spokesman and Mass Communication Officer Ashikuzzaman.
He said Ansar member Ishaq, who was on duty at the ward, noticed the two men allegedly attempting to persuade patients and their relatives to leave the hospital for a private clinic by offering promises of better treatment at lower costs.
After confirming the matter, Ishaq alerted patrolling Ansar members Kashem Mia and Al Amin, who rushed to the spot and detained the two suspects.
The detainees were subsequently produced before the hospital authorities and, following their instructions, handed over to the DMCH police camp for legal action.
