Man held over wife’s killing in Gazipur

RAB has arrested a man accused of killing his wife following a dispute over Tk3,000 in Sreepur, Gazipur.
The suspect, Sayedul Islam, 40, was arrested within 24 hours of the incident and later handed over to Sreepur Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Lt Col Md Neamul Halim Chowdhury, commander of RAB-1, disclosed the information at a press conference at the RAB Media Centre in Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar on Tuesday.

According to RAB, the incident occurred at around 2:30am on Monday at a rented house in Sreepur municipality.

The victim, Nasima Akter, 27, worked at a local garment factory. She was the daughter of Abdul Mannan of Bonpara village under Purbadhala upazila in Netrokona.

Sayedul is from Girdapara village under Tarakanda upazila in Mymensingh. The couple lived in Sreepur with their eight-year-old daughter and five-year-old son.

RAB said Nasima returned home after receiving her salary from the garment factory. Later that night, Sayedul allegedly demanded Tk3,000 from her.

When she refused to give him the money, an argument broke out between the couple. Sayedul allegedly attacked her with a sharp weapon, leaving her dead at the scene. Their two children were inside the house and witnessed the incident, RAB said.

Following the killing, RAB launched an operation and arrested Sayedul within 24 hours.

Citing relatives, RAB said Sayedul had allegedly been addicted to drugs for a long time and frequently demanded money from his wife, leading to repeated family disputes.
