Rescued python released into Sundarbans

A large python rescued from a paddy field in Lakurtala village of Sharankhola upazila in Bagerhat district has been released into the Sundarbans.

The reptile was rescued by local snake rescuer Shamsu Talukdar on Friday morning after it became entangled in banned Chinese duari fishing net.

According to locals, farmer Milon Talukdar had set the fishing net in his paddy field on Thursday afternoon to catch fish. When he returned the following morning to retrieve the net, he found the python trapped in it. He immediately informed Shamsu Talukdar by mobile phone. The rescuer rushed to the spot and skillfully freed the snake despite the rain.

Md. Khalilur Rahman, Station Officer of the Sharankhola Range Office under the Eastern Sundarbans Division, said the python was rescued from the illegal fishing net in the paddy field. It was later brought to the Sharankhola Range Office and released into the Sundarbans.

The python is estimated to be about 10 feet long and weigh around 7-8 kilograms.
