Employees of branch post offices in Nilphamari submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday, demanding a threefold increase in their salaries and allowances and recognition as departmental (government) employees.
The memorandum was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner by leaders of the Nilphamari district committee of the Bangladesh Postal Employees Union (Reg. No. B-2031), the Bangladesh Branch Post Office Employees Association, and the Bangladesh Branch Post Office Employees Unity Council.
Among those present during the submission were District Convener Jikrul Haque, Member Secretary Jamil Ahmed, Aminur Rahman, Haji Anichur Rahman, Central Committee Vice-President Hossain Mohammad Selim Reza, and other district leaders.
In the memorandum, the employees said branch post office staffs have been serving the postal service for many years on meagre allowances.
Despite performing duties similar to those of departmental employees, they alleged that they continue to face discrimination in salaries, allowances, and other service benefits.
They also said the sharp rise in the cost of living has made it extremely difficult to support their families on their current remuneration.
The employees placed the following two demands. A threefold increase in their existing salaries and allowances.Recognition of branch post office employees as departmental (government) employees.
The leaders urged the government and the relevant authorities to take prompt and effective steps to meet their legitimate demands.
