



Approximately 19 kg of gold, in the form of 160 gold bars, has been recovered following a raid on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines aircraft that arrived in Dhaka from Dubai, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA). The estimated market value of the recovered gold is around Tk 45 crore.
On Thursday morning, after Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-148 landed in Dhaka, its cargo hold was searched based on intelligence information. During the search, 160 gold bars were recovered one by one from the cargo hold.
Relevant sources said the operation was carried out by a joint team comprising intelligence agencies.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate, and customs authorities. According to initial estimates, the total weight of the recovered gold is around 19 kg.
Considering international and local market rates, its value could be around Tk 45 crore. Officials concerned said that investigations are underway into how the gold consignment reached the aircraft’s cargo hold, who is involved, and whether it was brought in with the intent of smuggling.
Authorities have not officially confirmed whether anyone has been detained in connection with the incident so far. However, the investigation to identify those involved is ongoing.
