Two of the three riders on a motorcycle were killed in a head-on collision with a Hiace passenger microbus on a highway in Chakaria on Sunday. The third rider sustained serious injuries.
The accident occurred at around 8:30 a.m. on June 28 in front of Amin’s shop at the entrance to Mojaher Para in Baraitali Union under Chakaria Upazila.
The deceased were identified as Md. Mahbub Alam, 25, son of the late Abul Kalam of Mojaher Para, and Md. Russell, also a resident of the same area.
The injured rider, Md. Shahed, younger brother of the deceased Mahbub Alam, was rushed to hospital for treatment.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred at a bend in the road where stacks of timber had obstructed visibility, making it difficult for drivers to see oncoming vehicles from the opposite direction.
As a result, the motorcycle collided head-on with the Hiace microbus.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chakaria Chiringa Highway Police Station, Md. Ariful Amin, said police, with the assistance of local residents, rescued the victims after receiving information about the accident.
“The two vehicles involved in the accident have been seized, and traffic movement on the highway has been restored to normal,” the OC said.
