Record Tk15.90cr found as donation

Madrasa students count money found in 13 donation boxes of the historic Pagla Mosque in Kishoreganj on Saturday.

The authorities have counted a record Tk 15 crore 90 lakh 80 thousand 146 from the donation boxes of the Pagla Mosque following a gap of around six months (180 days) since the last opening.

The counting of donations from 13 “charati” boxes began at around 7:30 am on Saturday and continued until 6:00 pm, lasting nearly 11 hours. Around 600 people, including officials and volunteers, took part in the process. At least 35 sacks of cash along with gold items were recovered from the boxes.

The counting of donations at historic Pagla Mosque, a 252-year -old mosque in Kishoreganj town, has shattered all previous records.

The boxes were opened in the presence of Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Sohana Nasrin, Additional District Magistrate Ershadul Ahmed, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration & Finance) Nazmun, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Nahid Hasan, and Sadar UNO Kamrul Hasan Maruf.

Deputy Commissioner in Kishoreganj Aslam said that plans are underway to build a 10-storey Islamic complex centered on the Pagla Mosque. The proposed facility will include orphan care, religious education, a library, cafeteria, and an IT section. He added that the mosque currently holds Tk 114.13 crore in public donations.

Superintendent of Police in Kishoreganj, Mizanur Rahman said police provided full security throughout the entire process from opening and counting the donation boxes to depositing the money in the bank. “Law enforcement continues to guard the donation boxes at all times,” he also said.

Earlier, on December 27, 2025, the mosque’s donation boxes had collected over Tk 11.78 crore.
Following the counting, officials confirmed that all cash was later deposited at the Rupali Bank Limited, Kishoreganj Branch, while foreign currencies and gold ornaments were secured in the district treasury.

Authorities said the mosque is currently developing plans for a large Islamic complex centered on the Pagla Mosque. The proposed 10-storey complex is expected to include facilities for orphans, religious education, a well-equipped library, a cafeteria, and an IT section.

Located on the western side of Kishoreganj town, the historic Pagla Mosque is one of the region’s most notable landmarks.

It is widely believed that donations made with sincere intentions here fulfill wishes, attracting people from across the country who contributes not only cash but also gold, livestock, and other valuables.
