2 held over attack on MP’s car in Sirajganj

Police have arrested two people including the leader of the volunteer party in connection with the attack and vandalism of BNP MP VP Aynul Haque’s car in Sirajganj-3 (Rayganj and Tarash) constituencies. Meanwhile, 4 defendants in the case filed voluntarily appeared in court on Monday and took bail. 9 more are absconding.

The arrested are Golam Muktadir (Muttakin) (42), member secretary of Raiganj Municipal Swecchasebak Dal and General Secretary of Raiganj Press Club, and Alamgir Hossain (25), son of Bablu Mia, cafe fast food shopkeeper, Rantitha village.

The bailees are Raiganj anti-discrimination student movement leader Riyad Sekh (35), leaders of the same organisation Simant Talukder (22) and Zubair Hossain (19) and joint member secretary of NCP student organisation Zilla Chhatra Shakti and member secretary of Raiganj Upazila Chhatra Shakti Md. Sifat (20).

The fugitives are Tamal Sarkar (40), leader of the anti-discrimination student movement, Shraban Sarkar (23), Md Ashiq (23), Md Zeesan (26), Md Johnny (24), Chhatra Dal activist Marjan Talukder (24), Jubo Dal activist Md Mamun (27), drug dealer Md Rafiul (22) and Abdur Rahman (30).

Sirajganj Court Police Inspector Roshan Yazdani said, 4 accused Riad, Simant, Sifat and Zubair in the case of attack on MP Aynul Haque’s car voluntarily appeared in the court on Monday morning and applied for bail.

At the end of the hearing, the judge of Raiganj Administrative Court granted them bail.
He also said that the other two accused Golam Muktadir and Alamgir Hossain who were arrested in the police operation in this case have been sent to jail.

The court applied for bail on behalf of the accused and the investigating officer of the case applied for 5 days remand on their behalf. After the hearing of both parties, the judge fixed the date of bail and remand hearing and ordered to send the accused to jail.

In this regard, Additional Police Super (Raiganj Circle) Saiful Islam Khan said that the accused Alamgir Hossain and journalist Golam Muktadir (Muttakin) were arrested on Sunday in connection with the attack on MP Aynul Haque’s car. Efforts are on to arrest the rest of the accused.

By the way MP Aynul Haque’s car was attacked after coming out of a consensus meeting regarding construction of TTC building in Dhangara market of upazila on Saturday (August 15) evening afternoon. The MP was unhurt but the rear glass of his car was damaged. On the night of this incident, the local BNP leader Shamimul Hasan filed a case as a plaintiff. In the case, 15 people have been named and 30 to 40 unknown people have been accused.
