Shakira supports victims of Colombia earthquake
The South American country Colombia has been devastated by a powerful and devastating 7.4-magnitude earthquake that struck the country recently.
However, pop queen and Grammy-winning star Shakira has come to the aid of her countrymen in this difficult time.
She visited the affected areas and destroyed schools in the city of Quibdo in the Choco province, which was the hardest hit.
Shakira shared photos and videos of herself standing in front of schools destroyed by the devastating earthquake of August 10 on her Instagram account, writing, “Colombia may be hurting today, but Colombia is not broken! In the last few days, I have seen how the people of the country are standing by each other, especially for our young children.”
The education sector was hit hardest by the earthquake. Shakira and her charity, Pais Descalzos, have announced a massive relief and reconstruction plan to get children back to class as quickly as possible.
The initiative is being jointly funded by the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund and Live Nation, with a $1 million grant to provide children with educational materials and rehabilitate damaged schools.
In addition, 10 new school buildings will be built in the Choco region with financial support from the Howard G Buffett Foundation.
The singer has pledged to donate from her personal funds to the reconstruction of the Technological University of Quibdo, one of the centers of higher education for students of her foundation.
