



A couple was arrested with 100 grams of heroin during a raid on the Dhumketu Express, an intercity train travelling from Rajshahi to Dhaka.
The operation was conducted by the Detective Branch (DB) of the Pakshi Railway Police.
The raid took place at around 12:45am on Friday (June 26), before the train reached Ishwardi Bypass Railway Station under the jurisdiction of Ishwardi Railway Police Station.
The couple was arrested from seats 76 and 77 of coach “Ja” on the moving train.
The arrestees were identified as Mosammat Sajema Begum, 42, and her husband, Md Kajol Ahmed, 43, residents of the Kalyanpur area in Chapainawabganj Sadar Upazila.
According to police, acting on a confidential tip-off, a team from the Detective Branch of the Pakshi Railway District, under the direction of Superintendent of Police Md Mehedi Hasan, boarded the Dhumketu Express at Rajshahi Railway Station and carried out the operation.
During the search, officers recovered 50 grams of suspected heroin from a vanity bag carried by Sajema Begum and another 50 grams from the pocket of Kajol Ahmed’s trousers, bringing the total seizure to 100 grams.
Police estimated the market value of the recovered heroin at approximately Tk 1 million (Tk 10 lakh).
A case has been filed with Ishwardi Railway Police Station under the Narcotics Control Act.
