Tree plantation key to tackling climate challenges: KAU VC

Khulna Agricultural University (KAU) has launched a tree plantation programme under the government’s initiative to plant 250 million trees over the next five years.

The programme was inaugurated on Tuesday morning ont the university’s Temporary Campus-1 by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Nazmul Ahsan.

Speaking at the event, the VC said tree plantation remains one of the most effective ways to protect the environment and address the growing challenges posed by climate change.”

In solidarity with the government’s nationwide campaign to plant 250 million trees, we have undertaken this initiative. Trees play a vital role in maintaining ecological balance and conserving biodiversity,” he said.

He added that alongside tree saplings, various flowering plants would also be planted to enhance the natural beauty of the campus and help create a cleaner, greener and more aesthetically pleasing environment.

Treasurer Prof Dr Shamim Ahmed Kamal Uddin Khan, teachers, students, officers and staff members of the university were present at the programme.

The commitment to plant 250 million saplings, create 10,000 nursery entrepreneurs and generate around 600,000 jobs is outlined in the “Environment Conservation and Sustainable Development” chapter of the government’s election manifesto.
