NCC Administrator joins anti-dengue campaign

NARAYANGANJ: Narayanganj City Corporation Administrator Adv. Sakhawat Hossain Khan operates a fogging machine during a dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign in the city on Saturday.

Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Administrator Adv. Sakhawat Hossain Khan took to the field on Saturday to lead cleanliness and public awareness activities aimed at preventing dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.

During the campaign, he personally carried a fogger machine on his shoulder and joined mosquito-control operations at different locations across the city.

The campaign was conducted from morning until noon under the slogan, “Keep our surroundings clean, build a dengue-free Narayanganj.” Awareness drives and cleanliness activities were carried out at several educational institutions across the city.

As part of the programme, awareness activities were held at Khanpur Bar Academy School, Jalkuri High School in Siddhirganj, Safura Khatun Pilot Girls’ High School and Laxmi Narayan Cotton Mills High School. Students and other participants were briefed on dengue prevention.

The school grounds, premises and surrounding areas were also cleaned, while mosquito-control chemicals were sprayed using fogger and spray machines.

NCC Administrator Adv. Sakhawat Hossain Khan stressed the importance of cleanliness and public awareness in preventing dengue.

He said a decision had been taken to conduct one-hour cleanliness drives every Saturday at schools and colleges, government offices and neighbourhoods.

He said no dengue-related deaths had so far been reported within the NCC area, although a number of people had been infected. According to available information, there were currently no dengue patients in Wards 4, 5 and 6 of the city corporation.

Sakhawat Hossain Khan said destroying mosquito breeding grounds was essential to containing the spread of dengue.

Stagnant water in bathroom commodes, discarded coconut shells, containers and other places where rainwater accumulates can create breeding grounds for Aedes mosquitoes, he said.
He urged residents to keep their homes, yards and surrounding areas clean and avoid dumping waste indiscriminately.

Addressing students, he called on them not only to keep their homes and surroundings clean but also to encourage their family members to practise cleanliness.

He urged everyone to work together to keep Narayanganj City Corporation free from dengue.
Among those present were NCC Acting Chief Executive Officer Nur Qutub Ul Alam, Health Officer Dr Mustafa, Metropolitan Jubo Labour Party Convener S M Aslam, heads and students of the participating educational institutions, ward secretaries and supervisors, and mosquito-control workers of the city corporation.
