The court has ordered to send Upazila Chhatra Dal President Abdullah Al Fahad to jail without granting bail when he appeared in the court in the case filed in connection with the attack on Jamaat procession by BNP-backed activists in Bauphal, Patuakhali.
Abdullah Al Fahad on Monday appeared in the court of Patuakhali Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Naureen Karim to appear in case number GR-89/26. At that time, he surrendered to the court and applied for bail.
After the hearing, the judge rejected his bail application and ordered to send him to jail.
According to local and party sources, a scuffle broke out between Jamaat and BNP-backed leaders and activists at Bauphal Public Ground on March 26 over seating arrangements for a function.
The situation was calmed down by the intervention of the president of the event, Upazila Executive Officer Saleh Ahmed. Following this incident, Jamaat-supporting leaders and activists attacked BNP-supported leaders and activists.
Later, when Jamaat-supported leaders and activists took out a procession in the town, Chhatra Dal leaders and activists attacked them.
Leaders and activists from both sides were injured in the counterattack. Two cases were registered at Baufal Police Station.
Fazlul Haque Mridha, the plaintiff in the case supported by Jamaat, alleged that a group of people ambushed his brother and associates due to a previous dispute.
The statement mentioned that at that time, the accused entered the business establishment and vandalized it, beat up some people and snatched cash.
The locals rescued the injured in the attack and first took them to Baufal Upazila Health Complex. Later, when their condition deteriorated, they were admitted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
A total of seven people were accused in the case filed at Baufal Police Station after the incident. Bauphal Upazila Chhatra Dal President Abdullah Al Fahad has been named as the number one accused in the case.
Bauphal Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sirajul Islam said, “The case is currently under investigation. Medical certificates of the injured have been collected. The investigation process is in its final stage and the investigation report will be submitted to the court soon.”
