Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Additional Commissioner Mohammad Rashidul Islam Khan has been withdrawn from his post following controversy over remarks he made during a public interaction.
According to an official letter signed by Additional Deputy Inspector General (Establishment) Raihan Uddin Khan on Saturday (20 June), Rashidul has been released from his current duties and directed to report to Police Headquarters by 21 June.
The decision came after a video of his comments, made during a view-exchange with local residents in the Mohirbari Khalpar area under Labanchara Police Station in Khulna last Tuesday, went viral on social media.
In the 25-second video, Rashidul was heard warning that if confidential information provided by residents was leaked despite instructions to police officers, strict action would be taken against the responsible inspector. Parts of his remarks, which included references to physically punishing officers, drew criticism and were widely viewed as inappropriate.
Police sources said the controversy surrounding the comments prompted the authorities to withdraw him from KMP and attach him to Police Headquarters.
Rashidul is a member of the Bangladesh Civil Service (Police) cadre and had been serving as an Additional Commissioner of KMP.
