HC seeks list of children detained with mothers in prisons

The court has also directed that a report be submitted to the High Court within the next two months, detailing how many children are currently detained with their mothers in various prisons and their overall condition.

The High Court bench of Justice Khizir Ahmed Chowdhury and Justice Md. Ziaul Haq issued this order on Monday. Barrister Kamrun Nahar Mahmud (Dipa) argued in favor of the writ, accompanied by lawyers Farzana Akhter and Hosnea Ara Begum.

The High Court has issued a rule asking why the government and other respondents should not be directed to ensure proper safety, welfare, and a suitable environment for the development of children who are residing with their incarcerated mothers in Bangladesh’s prisons.

At the same time, the court has directed that a report be submitted to the High Court within the next two months, containing details of how many children are currently detained alongside their mothers in various prisons across the country and their overall situation.
