Reigning champions Bashundhara Kings were forced to 1-1 draw by Arambagh Krira Sangha in their first match of the Bangladesh Football League at Gopalganj District Stadium on Saturday.

Bashundhara Kings swept all three trophies in the last season of domestic football competitions.

However, their campaign this time began by dropping points. In their opening yesterday’s match of Bangladesh Football League in Gopalganj against Arambagh, the Kings failed to secure a win despite taking the lead.

They had to settle for a draw after conceding a goal in the final minute of the eight minutes of stoppage time.

Nepalese forward Anjan Bista put the Bashundhara Kings ahead by scoring from a penalty in the 32nd minute.

Anjan made his debut for Bashundhara Kings with a style with the defending champions of Bangladesh.

Alongside him, Nepalese national team defender Rohit Chand and another Nepalese forward Manish Dangi, also made their debuts in the Kings’ jersey on Saturday.

Rohit not only made his debut but also captained the team in their opening match.

Playing without several senior and regular players, the Kings faced considerable pressure from Arambagh in the second half.

Arambagh created multiple scoring opportunities, but Kings goalkeeper Pappu Hossain kept them at bay with a series of brilliant saves.

It seemed as though the Kings were on course to secure all three points thanks to that solitary goal and Pappu’s heroics. But there was still a twist in the tale.

In the dying moments of the match, Akanbi Musa delivered a ball across the face of the goal from the left flank, and Irfan headed it home to equalise for Arambagh Krira Sangha.

Kings goalkeeper Pappu dived to his left but failed to reach the ball. He was beaten just once in the entire match, and that solitary moment cost Kings the victory.
