DSCC eyes 8-hour Eid cleanup Waste, mosquito drives stepped up ahead of Eid
Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has intensified preparations for Eid-ul-Azha waste management, with authorities pledging to clear sacrificial waste across the capital’s southern zone within eight hours after Qurbani activities end.
Speaking on Wednesday at the inauguration of beautification and landscaping works at the Vegetable Garden Secondary Transfer Station (STS) on Old Elephant Road, DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam said round-the-clock cleaning operations would begin from the night before Eid.
He said leaseholders have already been given strict directives while all necessary manpower and logistical preparations have been completed to ensure swift waste removal during the festival.
The DSCC chief also highlighted ongoing efforts to modernise waste management infrastructure, saying several STSs previously criticised for foul odour have now been transformed into cleaner and more environment-friendly facilities through improved management and beautification projects.
He added that more transfer stations across the city would gradually be upgraded to improve the urban environment and public health conditions.
Alongside Eid preparations, DSCC has also launched monsoon-focused drives to prevent dengue and chikungunya outbreaks. Salam said surveys and mosquito control campaigns are underway in vulnerable areas, urging residents to prevent waterlogging and keep their surroundings clean.
Senior DSCC officials and local representatives attended the programme.
