Fake DGFI men kidnap CNG driver in N’ganj
Police have arrested three men for allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a CNG driver and demanding Tk 2 lakh in ransom in Fatullah, Narayanganj, while posing as members of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
The victim, identified as Alauddin, 38, was rescued injured from a Pajero jeep during a police operation.
The arrested men are Mahabub Alam Raihan, 36, Saddam Kazi, 35, and Nasir, 36. Another unidentified accomplice managed to flee the scene.
They were arrested around 12:40am on Friday (September 4) at the intersection of the feeder road leading towards Mouchak, beside the district passport office in the Bhuighar area of the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road.
Police seized two walkie-talkies, a pair of handcuffs, a visiting card identifying the holder as a DGFI inspector, a Vivo mobile phone, a Pajero jeep and a stick from their possession.
According to police, Alauddin was waiting at the CNG stand in Signboard around 8:30pm on Thursday (September 3) when several men arrived in an old Pajero jeep and identified themselves as DGFI members.
They were carrying handcuffs, walkie-talkies and a stick. The men ordered Alauddin to get out of his CNG. When he refused, they allegedly smashed the front windshield of the vehicle with a stick and forcibly dragged him into the Pajero.
While driving him around different areas, the accused allegedly assaulted him, threatened to kill him and demanded Tk 2 lakh in ransom.
After being informed of the incident, a patrol team from Fatullah Model Police Station launched an operation to rescue the driver and apprehend the suspects.
The suspects were eventually arrested around 12:40am in the Bhuighar area of the Dhaka-Narayanganj Link Road. Alauddin was rescued from the Pajero in an injured condition.
Mohammad Mahbub Alam, officer-in-charge of Fatullah Police Station, confirmed the incident, saying three people had been arrested for impersonating DGFI personnel and kidnapping the CNG driver. A case has been filed against them.
He added that police operations are continuing to identify and arrest the accomplice who fled the scene.
