4 held over alleged rape of housewife in Bogura

A housewife was allegedly raped after being confined in a room in Adamdighi upazila of Bogura. Police have arrested four suspects in connection with the incident.

The woman filed a case against five individuals on Friday over the alleged assault, which reportedly took place on Wednesday night, said Officer-in-Charge of Adamdighi Police Station, Kamruzzaman.

Police conducted a raid in Santahar on Friday night and arrested four of the accused, he added.

The arrested individuals are Runa Begum, Shahedul Islam Shahed, Mithu Hossain, and Hridoy Hossain, all residents of the area. According to the case statement, the woman had been living in a rented house in the municipality.

The suspects allegedly called her and her husband to a nearby government staff dormitory following claims that a neighbour’s daughter had gone missing.

During the incident, her husband managed to escape, while the woman was confined in a room. The case alleges that she was later gang-raped late at night.

Her family rescued her on Thursday and took her to the Upazila Health Complex for treatment, police said.

The officer-in-charge said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspect.
