BD women with India, Maldives group in SAFF’s hat-trick mission

Bangladesh Women’s Football team are the two-time champions in the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF) Women’s Championship. This time, Ritu Porna Chakma & Co. have a mission to become a hat-trick champions. The SAFF Championship is starting in Goa, India on May 25. on Wednesday the draw ceremony for the SAFF Women’s Championship was held at the SAFF Headquarters in Dhaka. There, the current champions Bangladesh have been placed in Group ‘B’ with another strong team India. The third team are Maldives.
On Tuesday, the FIFA rankings of Women’s Football team were published. In it, Bangladesh Women’s Football team are ranked third among the six participating teams in the tournament. SAFF has placed the six teams in three pots according to the rankings. Bangladesh was in pot number two, along with Sri Lanka. SAFF General Secretary Purushottam Cattell named Bangladesh as the first team in pot number two. Then he named ‘B’ as the group. In this, Bangladesh were with the hosts India. Maldives are in Bangladesh’s group in pot three.
The six teams will play in two groups. Each team will play two matches. After two matches, the top two teams leading in points will go to the semi-finals. Group ‘A’ is consists of Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bhutan.
The Bangladesh Women’s Football team will start intensive training in Chattogram the day after tomorrow for the mission of a hat-trick. The team also plan to prepare outside the country.
